Governors and Trustees
The Franciscan International Study Centre (FISC) is a centre for the study and diffusion of Franciscan spirituality and theology established in 1973, and for the ministerial formation of the provinces of the Friars Minor (Great Britain) and Friars Minor Conventual (British Isles).
Membership of the Board of Governors
All Governors are appointed by the Trustees. The Board of Governors of the FISC shall, when complete, consist of not more than eleven persons, in communion with Catholic Church or acceptable to R.C. Authorities. The Trustees will normally take into account the following criteria in appointees:
- familiarity with Franciscan values
- skills to promote the welfare of FISC
- the appointees will represent the following bodies
- two Trustees presented by the Board of Trustees;
- one member presented by each of the two 1st Order families on site [i.e.: OFM and OFMConv];
- one member presented by the local community of FMSL;
- four members from the Franciscan and lay sectors of the community.
- the prospect of attending meetings regularly in terms of availability and distance to be travelled.
Governors shall normally be appointed for a period of three years
Retiring Governors shall be eligible for re-appointment
The Governors
The governing body fulfils a largely strategic role. It is responsible for the establishing the strategic framework within which the Centre is to be run by articulating aims and objectives,adopting policies for achieving those aims and objectives and agreeing goals by which it can measure the extent to which those aims and objectives are being achieved. The governing body has the duty to monitor and evaluate progress towards achievement of those aims and regularly review its strategy in the light of what that evaluation reveals.
