Syllabus

Teaching and developing Formation skills, including the formulation and adaptation of Formation Plans for each level of Formation; also the methods and techniques of monitoring and assessing those in each level of formation; and also the development of the Human, Christian and Franciscan person within the formative context and the requirements of Canon Law. The syllabus also includes information and assistance necessary for drawing up a formation programme.

 Aims

-   To foster Franciscan Formation skills within each student
- To give practical and technical assistance with regard to the development of a Formation programme
- To address common concerns arising in respect of Formation and exchange inter-cultural experiences among the group
-  To deepen understanding of the Rule and Life of the Brothers and Sisters of St Francis

Assessment

Students will prepare a 2000 word Formation Programme

Teaching Methods

Lectures, question and answer, exploration of specific issues to varying levels of Franciscan Formation.

Knowledge and Understanding

-  Recognition of their skills and their needs as appropriate for Franciscan Formation
-  Skills of structuring a formation programme at every level of Formation
-  Knowledge of documents and current thinking in the Franciscan Movement
-  Requirements of Canon Law for the organisation of a Formation house

Subject Specific Skills

- Knowledge of the technical and practical assistance that needs to be provided and applied in the preparation of a Formation Programme
-  The ability to present information relevant to Franciscan Formation to members of the Franciscan Orders, especially Formation personnel, in a coherent fashion, in written and/or oral format, with references and bibliography where necessary

Transferable Skills

-  Contribution to class/group discussion confidently
- Formation of independent opinions and the ability to use evidence appropriately to support conclusions
