Franciscan Formation Sessions 1

Module Code: 432FFSN1 Credits: 10 Contact Hours: 30 Level: 4 Lecturer: Kathleen Anne Copp OSF | Crispin Jose SCSC

Syllabus

The first two weeks will be devoted to establishing the group and discussing the needs of each student with reference to their future ministry in formation. The group will be asked to read critically and evaluate extracts from the Correspondence Course on Franciscan Missionary Charism and present these individually.

Students will select three main areas of Franciscan formation and they will spend the term consolidating and applying knowledge acquired throughout the term, in addition to guided personal research on recent Franciscan materials relevant to these areas. Work in progress will be brought back to the group and presentations made once a topic has been covered. Small groups will then prepare a formal presentation, using the work of each student, geared to a specific audience.

Throughout the year, students will be asked to consider the unique identity of their congregation/community within the identity of the wider Franciscan movement, the Church and the world today.

 Aims

This is the first module of a one year programme. This module aims:
- To build the group into an effective formation team, within which individual needs for future formation ministry are recognised, discussed and addressed.
- To provide students with a solid Franciscan foundation through study and reflection on Franciscan sources and materials
- To monitor individual progress in other modules and provide individual mentoring as appropriate.

Assessment

There will be continual assessment and monitoring of the group.

Teaching Methods
