Syllabus

Sr Crispin will explain in depth the construction of the formation programme for the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. Students will be asked to contribute information about their own formation programmes and the group will draw up necessary elements in order to formulate a holistic programme for Franciscans. The students will prepare and deliver a day’s course on the general syllabus agreed for an invited audience.

 Aims

To agree principles that draw from the certificate programme in order to present a general syllabus for Franciscan Formation incorporating all elements to ensure a holistic approach.

Assessment

Drawing on all that they have learned throughout the course, the group will formulate general principles for every stage in formation for use by Franciscan formators. They will lead a day at FISC on ‘Principles for Franciscan Formation’ open to other students and a wider local audience. Students will be assessed individually on the formation materials they use, their contribution to the preparation, presentation and role on the day of the event.

Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the module students will be able to:
-  to recognise what is necessary for a general Franciscan formation syllabus
- to communicate the contents of existing formation programmes and materials and assist others to understand their construction

Subject Specific Skills

- students will have explored a variety of formation programmes and principles and found a good method of presenting these to others
-  students will have acquired the skill of close collaboration with others
- students will have acquired the skill of applying a range of subjects studied to improve formation in their own community

Transferable Skills

- form independent opinions and present these to the group in such a way that open discussion and debate can take place
-  present complex material in a manner appropriate for a particular audience
-  work as part of a team to build on individual strengths and learn or develop skills
