Syllabus
A history and examination of diverse Franciscan rules, constitutions or statutes. Students will be expected to share their own form of life and will be invited to share and discuss their lived experience of the Franciscan way of life within their own communities, focusing on how specific aspects of the Franciscan charism, such as fraternity, minority, prayer, poverty, are practised within their own community.
Weekly seminars will be devoted to themes and/or issues raised by the class members. Areas for future development and co-operation will be addressed.
Aims
- To study contemporary Franciscan ways of life using the rules and/or constitutions of a selection of Franciscan communities/orders/congregations.
- To explore the development of the way of life for each group, considering fidelity to the ministry and mission envisioned by its founder/patron and necessary adaptations and application to life today.
- To explore the existing contribution of branches of the Franciscan family to today’s world and to initiate discussion on collaborative projects where Franciscans might make greater contributions.
